‘Bucketed skills’ for developers??
Yesterday, I learnt from a young soul that the work they were doing with me was done by 3 people in other companies. I was shocked to hear that, so asked for more information.
They said, we use docker and maintain our own devcontainers. That is normally done by the DevOps. We build the htmls / views in Spring, which is normally done by frontend developers, and there is the APIs which a backend developer would handle. On more probing, he also mentioned that he forgot about the End2End test automation, which is done by QA engineers.
And top this with the fact that I asked them to Install Ubuntu on feesh hardware, which would be the job of IT professionals.
This was eye opening for me. And I now understand why I am not able to find people who can cope with the work that I expect all developers to do.
In my opinion, all the above is required for all developers. You cant build good quality frontends if you cannot debug other parts of the application, and so on.
I did not even mention the fact that I have worked, and am a 3/5 level on Network management, Server farm management, Cloud Provider management ( AWS/Azure/Google ), System applications, Application Security, Mobile applications and god knows how much more.
What label should I put on my skills ? Suggestions ?
Are you a person who relates to the above and wants to intern, in person, from my Baner ( Pune ) office, and are open to working without a stipend ( We pay for office space, software infrastructure, and don’t charge for mentorship. Can’t do more )? Reach out to me on internships@mandraketech.in and mention [E2E Developer] in the subject. You should have something to show for it too.
