Quality of Internship, Recruitment, and Trust: Exclusive Internships !!

I have been mentoring people in technology for 4+ years now. Students, Back-To-Work professionals. From all kinds of backgrounds. Developers, Quality, SysAdmin, DevOps, and also Admin, Finance, HR, Programme Management.

I have had success with referring my interns to friends. They have been interviewed, and selected.

I give very pointed feedback in the completion letters. Specific skills and capabilities get called out. And, those are the ones I am confident about.

Recently, I launched a for fee programme under the banner “Exclusive Internship”, to be able to spend more time on the mentoring, and also be able to monetize some part of it. Specifically for those mentees who can afford it. In my discussions with people, I have got feedback that the fees is reasonable for students.

I am a proponent of working while studying. I encourage students to take up long term internships. 12-18 months is a good time. It gives them, as well as their mentor company, enough incentives to invest in each other. Students are ready to work when they graduate. And companies have had the advantage of making an offer to a “Fresher”, who is experienced in their environment, before anyone else.

We have had lot of success with this at Ozone API, and it was suggested that I create a “Product” offering, that allows companies to sponsor interns that approach me, and/or give them references after their training has reached a point where the company can start theirs.

I have been exploring this and am happy to mention that I have a formal arrangement with stealth mode startup. They are making their first offer as we speak (or should I say, as I write this).

Still exploring more ideas and companies to be able to define a formal offering. The initial discussions with stealth mode, self funded startups is very encouraging.
