Is the eRupee CBDC even meaningful in the age of UPI

Is the eRupee CBDC even meaningful in the age of UPI ?

I recently got access to the eRupee wallet from my bank, and I have been wondering about the use cases.

One case, that is implied, for all crypto based currencies, is anonymity. So, that was the first thing i tried. And, to my surprise, the receiver could see my name on the payment. So, thats out of the door.

If that is not available, UPI is good enough for most uses in India. Specially with UPI Lite and the offline wallets.

The only other case I can think of, is currency with a contract. With purpose or expiry set against it. Currency issued for food coupon / subsidy can only be used for that, nothing else.

Any use cases that UPI does not already serve, but the eRupee will ?
