Lessons in Accessibility: Inspired by My Grandfather
In my life and career journey, I’ve cherished a profound lesson from my grandfather, the patriarch of our close-knit family. Long before I delved into the world of management principles, he imparted a valuable insight: “Consistent presence in a familiar place is key.”. I was all of 18 when I left home, but this principle has always been a part of my ethos.
Imagine a home with 25 of us under one roof, where everyone knew precisely where to find my grandfather during specific times. Imagine being present for people in the Bikaneri community in Mumbai . Now, envision doing this while an office with a staff of over 50 people, and multiple business lines. He was never too busy to listen.
One consistent trait that anyone who has crossed paths with me, be it in the workplace or in life, would vouch for is my unwavering availability and approachability. I have never been busy for anyone who wants to talk. Throughout my career, I have deliberately cultivated this sense of predictability.
Even after transitioning into an advisory and consulting role earlier this year, the same people still know where to find me, and they can rely on my presence six days a week. My mentees, in particular, are well aware of this fact.
Those who reached out to me over LinkedIn and other platforms, for professional, startup and product advice and mentoring, know that that too. They always get a time slot for “Saturday between 11am to 5 pm”.
Are you among the one who is always busy ?
