Pitru Paksh, Shraadh Paksh or the ‘Ancestor fortnight’
The days, from 29th September 2023 until 14th October 2023, are an important, spiritually. Its called the Pitru paksh or Shraadh paksh. We remember our loved ones who are no longer in the material world.
On the equivalent lunar position in their date of death, Purnima to Amavasya, the family cooks food, donates, and remembers them.
It is expected that all those who are younger than the deceased participate and have that meal at home. It normally has a ‘sweet’ too, because sugar has some connections with the other world.
Please do read more, if you do not already know. Respecting, and remembering the elders, on whom you stand, is important. Knowing your family’s history is more important than the ones you read in the books.
