Discipline, and tech graduation

Every time i talk to a student, and i insist that they use Version control in their project, i get those nasty looks that say: “This person is stupid.”.

The first challenge that any education system is expected to handle is ensuring the students can use the tools of the trade, to achieve the industry product delivery.

The tech colleges can transform their outcomes with a few simple things:

train the teachers to value the basics of industry tooling
evaluate students based on their proficiency, not only of the theory, but also the usage of the tools
Tools don’t mean only ‘code’. It means the git versioning history, output of the linting tools, updating the README.md and such

Small things, that the faculty has control over, but is overlooked because of lack of awareness.

Can we bring in the Discipline of using the tools early in the life, so that it becomes muscle memory? So that they know no other way of doing things ? So that they understand that speed of execution can still be achieved with routine ?
