ChatGPT ? Why is it a Taboo in workplaces
I think this is a good summary: https://twitter.com/deepakshenoy/status/1657296716838887424
I have found it great when continuously applying new concepts on an existing piece of work, and seeing the transition and effect. Its a good template, both as a starting point, as well as to find new ways of going beyond my knowledge. It knows parts of technology, which are just too difficult, or not necessary, in the human brain.
We have used search to help find solutions. This tool, applies a solution to my problem, and then recommends it. It may or may not work. And that is besides the goal for me. I never got the perfect results from the first few search links. But it gives me the right keywords to explore more. More like a course, than a ‘solve my problem’ tool. Plus, I like that it is text. I can always go back to the conversation and see the thread for anything I missed, or other solutions that may be more relevant.
I am starting to see the effect of me using it on my colleagues, and mentees. They start by hiding it, as if its infidelity. But then, when I use it too, they settle down and get over that anxiety.
Our education system needs to grow up and stop treating this as ‘cheating’. Our organisations need to start forming policies around the usage of “intellectual property” usage for “learning” or “looking for solutions”.
More like the ‘Google Search’ moment. I see it as a natural evolution of search, rather than something ‘new’.
