Learning, Internships and the university degree

Learning, Internships and the university degree

This report confirms my suggestion, over the last 12 months, to my mentees, and to my child, over the last 3 years.

I strongly believe that starting work early, while still in the education system, is the best way to make a long term impact on ones career.

Start interning when in college, and continue that until your post graduation. By the time you pass, you should aim to have a minimum of 3 years of work experience. And have had an opportunity to try various career paths, to find your aptitude, and passion.

Most importantly, find a good mentor. This is the time to establish the relationship. And large companies will, on an average, not give you the ‘parent’ that you need. Only people who are passionate about making a difference to lives, specifically those not looking for cheap labour, will be in that position. I know there are not many like me, but then, if you look hard enough, the universe will connect you to them.

I get connected to people who should never otherwise have been introduced to me. I try to make a meaningful contribution, by working and monitoring them closely.

Have them experience the way of product development. Open up their minds to possibilities. Things that, i know for sure, companies, or those working at scale, would not.

A few brought others after they experienced the impact.

Most of them, I am proud to call my colleagues. And the few of finest ones I have worked with in my career.
