When in a vehicle, understand the purpose of the “brakes”
This morning, as I walked to my “work area” ( yeah, I have one, despite being on a sabbatical, for discipline ), I was nearly hit by a driver.
Lot of parameters, which make this a non-event (India, this is how we drive, we do not use the sidewalk), but it still put me in my thinking mode.
One thing, that is not normally taught in any driving school, is the usage of “brakes”. It is assumed that the person driving knows. And the only thing communicated is “it slows/stops the vehicle”.
My perspective is slightly deeper. I think that the need to use “brakes” is life’s way of slowing you down, or asking you to slow down. If you choose to ignore, sure. Only those, who are at peace with themselves, honour it.
Just like the roads, life has its “go fast” zones, and “go slow” zones. But most people, who have just come out of the “go fast” zones, do not see the sign boards. In most cases, they just turn restless, or even rash, hit someone, or damage themselves. But, those who do see the sign boards, slow down, take the pause and stop when they see others in a “rush”.
I have a feeling that a lot of people miss the other sign board “speed up”. They just continue in the “slow” mode, and then, much later, feel that they lost out, and could have gone faster. Do not go slow when you can go faster. That is where the “fire in the belly” will work best. That is where your passion and experience will get a chance to shine. That is the zone where you are “excited” and not just “happy”.
Here is wishing that everyone who reads this is able to be aware and attentive to these signs (life has its ways of notifying you, if you are listening). Change your road behaviour based on the zone you are in. And enjoy the ride, called life.
