Do you have a “Diwali Resolution” ?
We have heard of people resolving to achieve things in their lives, things they have been putting off, and they think of 1st January of the Gregorian Calendar ( or New Year, as we all call it ), for that.
Given the festive season beginning in India, I wanted to take this opportunity, and talk about the more specific opportunities, for creating resolutions, within the (so called) Indian (or Hindu, if you prefer the non-English version of the word) way of life.
As Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Hinduism) states: “scholars regard Hinduism as a fusion or synthesis of various Indian cultures and traditions”
The several days of Diwali celebrations open up interesting directions:
- Dhanteras - For most people, this day is about Dhan or wealth. But few know that this day is mostly about Dhanvantari, the god of healing, and Medicine. So, this is a good day to commit to goals around health
- Roop Chaudas - This day signifies appreciating your physical self, and committing to feeling beautiful, inside as well as outside.
- Lakshmi Puja - The day the goddess of wealth is worshipped, and requested (and invited) to be present in all homes, all year long. An excellent opportunity to appreciate and accept our financial status and goals, and set new ones for the next year
- Bhai Dooj - The day when all celebrate the sibling bonding. An opportunity to make commitments to stronger bonds, co-owned goals or clearing any misunderstandings and coming together.
Are you making any resolutions this Diwali ?
