Is there anything called as ‘Failure’ ?
If you sit back and think, sucess or failure are subjective terms.
And you just have to define them for yourself. Don’t go by the definition that others set for themselves.
From the linked post post, look at the terms Prasanna Kulkarni celebrates: “simplicity, normalcy, failure”.
“Simplicity” for me may be “Show Off” for you, or vice versa. Same can be said about ‘normalcy’.
“Failure” or “Success” is more nuanced. What may seem like ‘Failure’ today, may actually be the reason for a ‘Success’ 10 years from now. How do you judge that ?
If you treat everything as a learning opportunity, then eventually, everything leads to success, or luck, as the book #13StepsToBloodyGoodLuck by Ashwin Sanghi explains. I was suprised, when I referred this book to someone, and they did missed the point. Then I realised that I can get perspectives that others dont. So next time, I am going to set the background before i ask people to read it. According to me, a ‘Must’ read. Well written and light reading.
So, celebrate every day and event or even non-events. You never know for sure if this will be the milestone that changed your life.
For example, I woke up this morning, looked out the window, and thought: “A great time to spend the day with my family in a long drive”. Who knows what discussions or events would happen that may change the way that we treat our relationship? I have an argument with my child about something ? Thats an opportunity for them to understand my way of thinking, and for me to do the same. Eventually, some day in the future, this is going to help. But, will today be a good day or bad as a result of that ? Your guess is as good as mine.
I have failed to start software services companies 3 times in my life. Every time to a point where i burnt all my life savings, and more. But, when I started building Ozone API ‘s India office, I was ready. I want to believe we created an environment, team and culture that rivals none other. We are unique. With a good mix of typical Bawa / Marwadi / Family Business / Professional Global organisation. All my life’s learnings.
So I ask you, should i be celebrating the ‘Failure’ of the 3 times earlier in my life, or the ‘Success’ of this time ? I can’t tag this with any ‘label’. All I can say is I am happy and satisfied with what I have been able to do. Always gave my 100%, and that is what matters in the end. Allows me to have a good night sleep. Satisfied for the day, and raring for the next one.
